Sunlight Energy Is Free

The sun will always shine no matter what, and it will forever be free. So the world should move fast towards the light and stop dragging it's feet. Solar power energy is the future, it is clean, pure and readily available, it is also here to stay.

There is so much uncertainty when it comes to the use of renewable energy, it is mainly because we are used to our comfort zone. Anything new might disrupt our lives, since we like the way things have been in past two thousand years, why change now? Next time you do the mundane task of turning on an electric powered bulb, which is not energy saving, think, am I helping destroy our environment, or am I conserving it?

Statistics show that "The US produces 4,000,000,000,000 Kw Kilowatt Hours of Electricity each year. Less than 2% of this is solar energy. The energy that strikes the surface of the earth in 8 minutes is more than the world uses in a year. In two seconds the sun releases enough energy to fuel 1,000,000 cars for a year." These statistics have made me bring to your attention the fact that we are living on borrowed energy, which leaves dangerous carbon prints on our environment.

Why is China, and European countries like Germany leading in the use of renewable energy, when they have very little sun compared to the USA? It is because their governments are forward thinking and have seen the cost effectiveness of sunlight energy during the few months they have it. They have created programs that offer incentives to their citizens making clean energy affordable. They have also seen that this is the best way to create jobs in a tough economy such as the current one.

This article is to convince you that, renewable energy is the way to go in support of all the green talk we are hearing lately. We can all make an impact by educating ourselves about the advantages of solar power energy over the use of fossil, coal, electric and bio diesel energy.

In order for us to conserve the already depleted resources, renewable energy is the way to the future, we might as well embrace it sooner rather than later, generations to come will be very thankful to us for having done this.

The initial cost of installing solar panels seems to be a deterrent to most home owners, as it is exorbitant, but the good news is that the costs can be recovered in a short period of time. Also, the government, in the hope of keeping up with the leading countries is willing to offer financial incentives to home owners in the form of tax break.

Once installed on roof tops, solar cells will continue to harvest power during the day, if there is any surplus energy, homeowners can resell this energy to their utility companies for future use.

  1. Very true that the cost of solar panels are a deterrent to most homeowners but these same homeowners spend thousands on luxury items like electronic equipment or high-dollar cars. Would it not be great if our energy could be viewed as a luxury not something that we unconsciously expect to 'just be there'? I am certainly guilty of thinking that as long as I pay my light bill the power will be on. If you think about it, something catastrophic will have to happen to show the U.S. that using the sun or wind as energy alternatives needs to be a concern for all, not just a way of life for some.

  2. Your argument about US use of renewable energy grabbed my attention and somewhat convinced me to agree with your idea. One of the statistics you've found was very interesting, “The energy that strikes the surface of the earth in 8 minutes is more than the world uses in a year.” I was surprised the potential of renewable energy and thanked again for all the natural resources that we have.

You repeatedly emphasized that US barely use renewable energy though they have more sun compared to China and European countries who stepped forward in using these magnificent resources. I agree that using solar energy would certainly bring lots of benefits like reducing pollutants and saving millions of dollars from electricity spent. It is true that the initial cost of installing solar panels can be pricy and would make home owners to hesitate in making a decision. However, it is once installed on their roof, solar energy will continue be stored during the day and any leftover would be saved for the future use. If we think about electricity bill paid every month, installing solar panels would save more money at the end. I believe that installation fee would get lower as solar panels get distributed more and more.

  3. This interesting post about renewable energy shows how more work needs to be done into it . It is incontestable that this king of “green” energy is the way to go. I hope to see in a near future plans like in Europe where government helps on homeowners who decide to go “green” by giving a good amount on the price of inversing on getting any kind of renewable energy. Like you said, this type of energy needs to become more known and currently used, it is a good time to step forward in this technology because the cell are getting better and batteries are more powerful. One thing I would like to mention though is that batteries have a limited life expectancy and need to be changed. The batteries are highly toxic for environment if not disposed properly, so I would like to see in a near future some kind of factory that recycles that. I hope that US will pickup on what Europe and China is doing to not get behind because one day or another fossil type of energy is going to end, and this may be faster than we think.

  4. I believe that solar energy is one of the most effective ways to support “going green.” I’m also convinced that we should go green because of the statistics that said “the energy that strikes the surface of the earth in 8 minutes is more than the world uses in a year.” Your article is convincing in terms of explaining how effective solar energy actually is, but your reasoning about the cost of solar panels is still unclear. You said that the cost for solar panels can be paid off in a short amount of time, but how short is it? Although solar energy is ideal, the cost of solar panels for the whole country maybe too much for our government to handle hence we are behind in the amount of solar panels in our country.
From your article, I am not convinced that the U.S. is ready for solar panels in terms of cost especially during this economic recession.
